Three Strategies: Integrating Classical Learning with Modern Educational Techniques

Updated: Aug 24, 2023

As educators, it's our responsibility to help our students develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills they need to succeed in today's complex world. That's why at our tutoring and coaching sessions, we prioritize classical learning alongside modern educational techniques.

One powerful tool we use is Socratic questioning, a coaching strategy that encourages students to think deeply and critically about their own thought processes. By asking open-ended questions that challenge assumptions and encourage reflection, Socratic questioning helps students develop a deeper understanding of complex issues and develop their own critical thinking skills.

Socratic Method: Types of Questions

There are three types of Socratic questions that we utilize in our coaching sessions:

  1. Questions of clarification: These questions help students understand a concept or idea more deeply by asking them to explain it in their own words.

  2. Questions that challenge assumptions: These questions encourage students to think critically about their own beliefs and assumptions, and consider alternative viewpoints.

  3. Questions that explore implications and consequences: These questions help students understand the broader implications of a concept or idea, and how it may impact their lives and the world around them.

Integrating Socratic questioning into our coaching and tutoring sessions is just one of the ways we help our students develop the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond. By encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving, we're empowering the next generation of leaders to make a positive impact on the world.
